Default Camera Credentials

If you're struggling to connect to a camera and haven't changed the default username and password, this reference list covers the most common camera brands.

Warning: Default credentials are a major security risk. Always change default passwords immediately after installation. Attackers routinely scan networks for Cameras using default credentials.

Tip: Can't find your camera brand? Check the manufacturer's documentation or the label on the camera itself - many manufacturers print default credentials on the device.

Security Best Practices

Warning: Using default credentials exposes your cameras to unauthorised access, data theft, and potential use in botnets. Change all default passwords immediately.

Recommended practices:

  1. Use strong passwords - at least 12 characters with mixed case, numbers, and symbols
  2. Unique passwords per camera - don't reuse the same password across Cameras
  3. Document credentials securely - use a password manager, never plain text files
  4. Update firmware - newer firmware often enforces password requirements
  5. Disable unused accounts - many Cameras have multiple default accounts

Tip: Your TetherBox automatically stores camera credentials securely. View them at AdminCameras → Select camera → Credentials tab.

Troubleshooting

Camera rejects default credentials:

  • Password may have been changed during initial setup
  • Try factory resetting the camera (refer to manufacturer documentation)
  • Some manufacturers require password creation on first login

Multiple default accounts:

  • Some Cameras have admin, root, and user accounts with different defaults
  • Try all combinations if the first doesn't work
  • Check for model-specific variations in manufacturer documentation

Still can't connect:

  • Verify the camera is on the same network as your TetherBox
  • Check if the camera requires ONVIF to be enabled
  • See Camera Troubleshooting for network diagnosis
